POSITION SUMMARY
Under the direction of the Director of School Facilities, the Energy and Environmental Specialist leads the development and implementation of Calvert County Public Schools’ Resource Management and Energy Conservation Plan, advancing district wide efforts in energy efficiency, resource conservation, and environmental sustainability. This role collaborates across Facilities, Planning and Construction, and school-based teams to integrate sustainable practices into operations and capital projects, ensuring alignment with Maryland High Performance Green Building requirements and applicable state and federal regulations.
The Specialist drives data-informed decision-making by monitoring energy usage, managing utility expenditures, and identifying cost-saving strategies, grants, and incentive opportunities. The position also supports Green School certification efforts, supports staff training, and maintains sustainability reporting and communications. This role ensures CCPS remains compliant, efficient, and forward-focused in meeting its sustainability goals.
EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE
At the time of application, the candidate must hold or be eligible for:
Bachelor’s degree in environmental management, environmental resource management, natural resource management, sustainability, or a closely related field required.Minimum of 4 years of experience in a related field required.Experience supporting or coordinating sustainability initiatives aligned with the Maryland Green Schools Program, including initial certification or recertification efforts preferred.SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Collaborates with the Director of School Facilities or designee on the development of and co-author the Resource Management and Energy Conservation Plan.Collaborate with the Departments of School Facilities and Planning and Construction to support energy management, resource conservation, and sustainability efforts across existing facilities and capital projects at Calvert County Public Schools.Develop, implement, and oversee energy consumption reduction strategies within stand-alone energy projects as well as applicable Capital Improvement Program projects, consistent with Maryland High Performance Green Building requirements and best practices.Coordinate with professional, technical, trade, and operations staff internally and externally in support of energy conservation initiatives, building performance improvements, and construction-related sustainability efforts, as appropriate.Monitor, analyze, and document energy and utility usage data, including calculating energy savings associated with conservation measures, system upgrades, and energy savings incentive or rebate programs.Track and analyze budget and expenditures for utilities and energy related capital investments for a budget of up to $10 million and potentially more to maximize return on investments for conservation initiatives. Moderate discretion on how funds are spent and ensures compliance with district budget policies.Serve as a resource for school-level Green Teams and provide oversight of the Green School re-certification process.Assist in developing policies and procedures to provide guidance on energy and utility issues.Monitor and track State and federal laws, regulations, guidance, and emerging policies related to energy management, greenhouse gas reduction, sustainability, and public sector facilities, including those stemming from…
