Position: Fiscal Accounts Clerk I (Revenue Administration Division)

Position Duties

The Comptroller of Maryland's Revenue Administration Division is looking for forward-thinking individuals to join our Payment Processing team. We are hiring for two (2) Fiscal Accounts Clerk I positions. The duties include reviewing, verifying, recording, and adjusting financial transactions related to tax returns, researching and applying payments to different types of taxpayer accounts, and preparing and depositing check payments. The role is fast-paced, high-volume, and requires strong attention to detail, excellent interpersonal skills, flexibility, willingness to learn new processes, and teamwork.

Telework may be eligible after a 6-month probation. The position may require evenings and/or Saturdays during the Tax Season (January 15 – May 15).

Minimum Qualifications
  • Education:

    Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.
  • Experience:

    One year of experience reviewing, verifying, recording, adjusting, and balancing financial transactions.
  • Experience in calculating and recording financial, statistical, or other numerical data may be substituted on a year‑for‑year basis for the required high school education.
  • Six credit hours in accounting from an accredited college or university may be substituted for one year of the required experience.
  • At least five courses or six months of accounting‑related training in a vocational training program (journalizing transactions, analyzing transactions into debits and credits, posting to a general ledger, payroll, bank reconciliations, accounts payable, and accounts receivable) may be substituted for one year of the required experience.
  • U.S. Armed Forces military service experience in Financial Clerical/Finance Technician classifications or specialty codes in the financial field may be substituted at a rate of one year of military experience for the required experience.
  • Desired or

    Preferred Qualifications
    • Experience with remittance processing systems.
    • Experience in data entry.
    • Microsoft Office experience.
