This position’s main purpose is to function as an Environmental Health Aide in the Howard County Health Department, Bureau of Environmental Health, a regulatory agency charged with responsibility for prevention of disease transmission through environmental factors. This position serves that mission by collecting water samples from drinking water wells in Howard County. This position is assigned to the Community Hygiene Program.
POSITIONDUTIES
- 90% Water Sample Collection Performs water sampling of drinking water wells in Howard County. Visits properties that schedule water sampling through the program as instructed and/or determine the proper sampling location (as needed). Collects samples and completes tracking paperwork according to sampling lab requirements, program policy and procedures, and best practices. Maintains a water sampler certification for the state of Maryland.
- 10% Other Duties as Assigned Other duties as required, including but not limited to timely submittal of all activity reports and administrative paperwork, and providing good customer service to all Health Department customers. Possesses a broad understanding of HCHD services and can refer to other programs. Participates in necessary drills and exercises, responds to emergencies as appropriate, keeps abreast of policies and procedures in the program, bureau and department, and completes all required trainings.
Participates in quality improvement efforts within the program.
- Education:
Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate. - Experience:
Three years of experience in sanitation or closely related field.
Notes:
- Possession of a Maryland Water Sampler Certification or meet the requirements to obtain this certification.
- Experience with water systems and water treatment systems.
- Experience with communication and customer service, with a commitment to providing a positive client experience.
- Valid Driver's License.
- Detail oriented.
Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.
