Usability Engineer

Job Brief

Conducting usability testing, gathering user feedback through surveys, and working with product designers and engineers to develop applications.

The Usability Engineer will be responsible for user interface design based on user needs and requirements. They will collaborate closely with users to document workflows, tasks, and scenarios, and translate these into UI design specifications. Experience in all phases of the software engineering cycle, from analysis to deployment, is essential.

• Have experience working closely with users (analysts) to research and document user profiles, analysis tasks, workflows, and user scenarios.
• Collect and document user requirements, create UI design specifications, and work closely with product designers and process engineers developing applications.
• Conduct usability testing and design/develop user surveys to obtain user feedback.
• Apply task experience through the usability and software engineering cycle phases (analysis, design, implementation, deployment) to work with users to research and document user profiles, tasks, workflows, scenarios, and create UI design from specifications.

• Ten years in this or related field and familiarity with task analyses, UI design, and usability testing.
• Five years of user-centered design and testing experience.
• Bachelor's degree in cognitive/experimental psychology, human-factors engineering, or an engineering-related field (e.g., systems engineering, software engineering, business process engineering). Four additional years of experience may substitute a bachelor's degree.
