Salary Range: $175,000 – $210,000 / year (dependent on experience, education, and skill set)
About the RoleSeeking a senior Systems Engineer 3 to support a mission-critical initiative delivering advanced visualization and presentation services for analytic tool prototyping, development, and production in Columbia, MD.
In this role, you will collaborate within a small, high-impact team dedicated to reverse engineering approximately 40 legacy databases into a unified, universal data model. You will play a central role in enabling efficient data analysis, discovery, and search capabilities, driving the end-to-end migration of legacy business data to a modernized platform.
Key Responsibilities- Reverse engineer legacy systems across both front-end and back-end architectures to map existing data structures and workflows.
- Design, architect, and develop unified database models to consolidate ~40 disparate databases into a single universal system.
- Author and optimize complex SQL queries within relational database environments (e.g., Oracle, PostgreSQL).
- Perform comprehensive data analysis, normalization, cleansing, and validation to ensure data integrity during migration.
- Implement robust data security best practices throughout system modeling, extraction, and migration phases.
- Support data visualization, presentation services, and prototyping for downstream analytic tools.
- Security Clearance: Active TS/SCI with Polygraph.

Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Systems Engineering, or a related discipline plus at least 20 years of relevant professional experience, OR - Experience &
Education:
25 years of relevant professional systems engineering/data architecture experience without a degree. - Database & Modeling: Proven expertise in database design, data modeling, and schema normalization.
- SQL & RDBMS: Extensive hands-on experience utilizing SQL across relational database management systems (e.g., Oracle, PostgreSQL).
- Reverse Engineering: Demonstrated experience reverse engineering complex software systems across both front-end interfaces and back-end data layers.
- Data Processing: Proven track record in data analysis, data cleansing, normalization, and data security governance.
- Advanced experience with Oracle database architectures.
- Prior working knowledge of BM&A systems.
