The Systems Specialist is responsible for supporting, maintaining, and improving the organization's IT systems and infrastructure. This role focuses on system administration, troubleshooting, and user support, ensuring that servers, applications, and related technologies are secure, stable, and performing optimally. The Systems Specialist works closely with help desk staff, engineers, and business stakeholders to resolve issues, implement changes, and support ongoing projects.

Key Responsibilities- System Administration & Maintenance
- Monitor, manage, and maintain servers, operating systems, and key applications.
- Apply patches, updates, and configuration changes to systems in accordance with change management procedures.
- Perform routine system health checks, capacity planning, and performance tuning.
- User Support & Troubleshooting
- Provide advanced technical support for escalated issues from help desk/Tier 1 teams.
- Diagnose and resolve system, application, and network-related problems.
- Assist with user account management, permissions, and access controls.
- Implementation & Configuration
- Install, configure, and deploy new systems, applications, and tools.
- Assist in system upgrades, migrations, and integrations.
- Document system configurations, procedures, and standards.
- Security & Compliance
- Ensure systems adhere to security best practices and organizational policies.
- Help implement and monitor security controls such as antivirus, endpoint protection, firewalls, and access management.
- Participate in audits, risk assessments, and remediation activities.
- Monitoring & Reporting
- Use monitoring tools to track system performance, availability, and capacity.
- Respond to alerts, incidents, and outages, performing root cause analysis and corrective actions.
- Prepare reports on system health, incidents, and improvements for management.
- Collaboration & Process Improvement
- Collaborate with IT teams (network, security, applications, help desk) on cross-functional initiatives and projects.
- Contribute to the development and refinement of IT processes, standards, and documentation.
- Provide input on technology selection and system architecture improvements.
- EDUCATION:
AA/AS - Required Experience:
8+ years of experience - Required Technical Skills
- Experience with Windows and/or Linux server administration.
- Familiarity with Active Directory, group policies, and identity/access management.
- Experience with virtualization platforms (e.g., VMware, Hyper-V) and/or cloud services (e.g., Azure, AWS, M365).
- Strong troubleshooting skills across OS, applications, and basic networking.
- Knowledge of backup/restore solutions and disaster recovery concepts.
- Understanding security best practices and patch management.
- Preferred Skills
- Experience with scripting/automation (Power Shell, Bash, Python).
- Familiarity with monitoring tools (e.g., Solar Winds, Nagios, PRTG, Splunk).
- Hands-on work with storage systems, DNS/DHCP, and other core infrastructure services.
- Exposure to ITIL practices and ticketing systems (Service Now, Remedy, Jira, Zendesk).

The likely hourly rate for this position is between $47.00 - $63.60. This is not, however, a guarantee of compensation or salary. Rather, salary will be set based on experience, geographic location and possibly contractual requirements and could fall outside of this range.
