Major, Lindsey & Africa’s Interim Legal Talent group is seeking a self-driven Interim Investigations & Compliance Specialist for a technology-focused client’s legal department.
OverviewOur client is seeking an interim Healthcare Paralegal or Investigation Professional to join a cross-functional team in the healthcare space. This assignment is for an initial 3+ month period, with a goal of permanent placement. The role is anticipated to be full-time, with a minimum of 32 to 40 hours per week and some periods of overtime possible.
Experience: 3 to 5+ years preferred; exceptional candidates with 2+ years considered
Location: Hybrid - Columbia, MD
Responsibilities- Serve as a primary legal resource when state offices report incidents involving patient care, staff conduct, or compliance concerns.
- Identify legal, regulatory, and risk-management issues related to home health operations, including impaired staff, neglect, or clinical concerns.
- Provide practical guidance to internal teams on how to appropriately handle reported issues.
- Support and coordinate internal investigations, including fact gathering, documentation review, and interaction with investigators.
- Work closely with Compliance, Human Resources, Operations, and Employee Relations Advisors to ensure consistent and compliant responses.
- Assist with matters involving PHI, HIPAA, and healthcare privacy obligations.
- Perform file clean-up and organization, ensuring accuracy and completeness of legal and investigative records.
- Progressively assume responsibility for an assigned caseload following training.
- Apply foundational paralegal skills to healthcare-related matters, including personal injury, workers’ compensation, and clinical familiarity.
- Provide functional guidance and support to a team of six healthcare paralegals.
- Foster a collaborative, communicative, and solutions-oriented team environment.
- Serve as a reliable liaison between the Legal Department and operational leadership.
- Complete comprehensive six-week training program designed to provide:
- Exposure to client’s home health model and clinical environment
- Instruction on internal investigation protocols
- Education on healthcare compliance, privacy, and reporting obligations
- 2+ years of experience as a paralegal (with certificate), or commensurate experience conducting investigations in a similar capacity.
- Familiarity with investigations involving employee conduct, neglect, impairment, or patient care incidents (healthcare experience preferred, but not required; employment/compliance also acceptable).
- Ability to manage investigation files, timelines, documentation, and evidence in an organized, defensible manner.
- Proven ability to work independently, manage complex workloads, and prioritize competing deadlines.
Pay rate: $38-$50
