Strategic Sourcing Manager – Metals & Fabrication

Columbia, Maryland | Hybrid

Up to $180,000 Base + 15% Annual Bonus + 10% Company-Funded Annual Retirement Contribution

The Opportunity

A growing, well-established global industrial manufacturer is seeking an experienced Strategic Sourcing Manager – Metals & Fabrication to lead sourcing strategy for critical metal commodities, fabricated components, and outsourced manufacturing services.

This is a highly visible position within the company's supply chain organization and an opportunity to take ownership of a strategically important spend category supporting manufacturing operations throughout North America.

The successful candidate will combine strong commercial negotiation skills with real manufacturing knowledge
. We are looking for someone who understands metal markets, knows how to build and manage a strong supplier network, can identify opportunities for significant cost savings, and can protect manufacturing operations from supply disruptions.

This is a strategic sourcing role — not a transactional purchasing position.

Location

The position is based in Columbia, Maryland and offers a hybrid work schedule

The individual will work closely with corporate leadership, manufacturing operations, engineering teams, and suppliers throughout North America.

Some travel to manufacturing locations and strategic suppliers will be required.

What You Will Do Own Strategic Sourcing for Metals & Fabricated Components

Develop and execute sourcing strategies across key categories that may include:

  • Carbon and sheet steel
  • Fabricated metal components
  • Welded and formed assemblies
  • Processed metal products
  • Outsourced manufacturing
  • Metal finishing and coating services
  • Other steel- and metal-intensive commodities

You will evaluate suppliers, negotiate commercial agreements, improve cost competitiveness, strengthen supply continuity, and develop long-term sourcing strategies that support continued manufacturing growth.

Take ownership of important supplier relationships and negotiations, including:

  • Pricing and commercial terms
  • Long-term agreements
  • Capacity commitments
  • Cost-reduction initiatives
  • Supply agreements

The successful candidate should be comfortable negotiating directly with sophisticated manufacturing suppliers and senior supplier leadership.

Understand & Manage Commodity Markets

Monitor the external market and use that information to make better sourcing decisions.

This may include:

  • Commodity pricing trends
  • Raw material cost drivers
  • Inflationary pressures
  • Trade and tariff considerations
  • Supply constraints
  • Manufacturing lead times
  • Geographic sourcing risk

Use market intelligence to anticipate issues rather than simply reacting to them.

Drive Meaningful Cost Savings

Develop and execute sourcing initiatives that improve total cost while maintaining quality and supply continuity.

Opportunities may include:

  • Alternative manufacturing methods
  • Should-cost analysis
  • Total-cost-of-ownership analysis
  • Make-versus-buy evaluations

This person will be expected to identify opportunities, build the business case, negotiate effectively, and deliver measurable results.

Strengthen the Supplier Base

Build strong partnerships with critical suppliers while maintaining clear expectations around:

  • Cost
  • Quality
  • Delivery
  • Lead times
  • Capacity

Lead supplier reviews, performance discussions, improvement initiatives, commercial negotiations, and escalations when necessary.

Protect Manufacturing Operations

Supply continuity is an important part of this position.
