The Stationary Engineer 1st Class operates, monitors, maintains, and troubleshoots steam, chiller plant, and HVAC equipment. Through a computerized management system, they control temperatures and regulate the HVAC system to ensure patient and staff comfort at all times. The position requires a thorough understanding of steam boiler, chiller, and HVAC plant equipment design and operating principles, enabling safe, reliable, and efficient production of steam and chilled water.

They monitor, tune, and troubleshoot utility consumption by the hospital’s distributed HVAC equipment to ensure proper conditioning of hospital spaces. Accuracy is essential, and they occasionally supervise the work direction or instruction of other employees. The role reports directly to the Chief Engineer and Director of Plant Operations.

• A State of Maryland Stationary Engineers License is required.
• High school, trade or vocational school graduate, or equivalent.
• At least three (3) years’ experience in a boiler room or related area.
• Ability to operate engines and machinery necessary to heat and air‑condition the hospital.
• Ability to read and follow instructions in an operations manual.
• Working knowledge of computerized Building Management Systems.

Salary Range:
Minimum $28.47/hour – Maximum $47.00/hour. Compensation will be commensurate with equity and experience for roles of similar scope and responsibility.
