Main Purpose of JobA Registered Nurse is a full‑performance level worker providing direct nursing care to students at the Maryland School for the Deaf. This is a 10‑month school year, on‑call substitute position.
Position Duties- Administer medications (oral, topical, inhalation, injection) as prescribed for medical conditions or injuries.
- Assess, evaluate, and monitor students' current medical and emotional health status and identify nursing needs.
- Maintain accurate and adequate records of nursing care and observations and treatment according to established procedures.
- Maintain student health center facility.
- Provide auxiliary duties as needed.
- Be available on‑call as required.
- This is a contractual position.
- Education:
Determined by the Maryland State Board of Nursing under the licensing requirements for Registered Nurses. - Experience:
None.
Preferred Qualifications
- Pediatric, school, or camp nurse experience desirable.
- Experience with or willingness to learn American Sign Language (ASL).
- Call‑in: must provide a reachable phone number.
- Substance abuse testing per Maryland regulations.
- Background investigation at own expense.
- Provide three letters of recommendation.

BenefitsContractual employees who work 30+ hours a week (or average 130 hours per month) may be eligible for subsidized health benefits coverage for themselves and their dependents. As contractual employee, you are responsible for paying 25% of premiums for medical and prescription coverage, including eligible dependents. The State of Maryland subsidizes 75%. You may elect to enroll in dental coverage, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, and life insurance, paying full premium.
Leave may be granted to contractual employees who have worked 120 days in a 12‑month period. Leave accrues at a rate of one hour per 30 hours worked, not to exceed 40 hours per calendar year.
