Dandelion Energy is seeking a MD Apprentice Driller to join our growing field operations team in Maryland. This role is designed for individuals who want to build a long‑term career in geothermal and well drilling while training under experienced drillers.

As an Apprentice Driller, you will assist licensed drillers in installing vertical geothermal boreholes for residential and multifamily construction projects across Maryland and the greater DC/Baltimore area. This role follows Maryland apprentice well driller standards and provides hands‑on experience operating drilling equipment, learning well construction practices, and supporting safe and efficient field operations.

This is an opportunity to gain specialized technical skills while contributing directly to the expansion of clean geothermal energy.

Responsibilities
  • Assist licensed drillers with the installation of vertical geothermal boreholes for residential and multifamily construction sites.
  • Support drilling rig setup, operation, and breakdown under supervision.
  • Handle drilling materials, rods, casing, grout, and other field equipment.
  • Observe and learn drilling techniques including borehole construction, grouting, and loop installation.
  • Assist with documenting drilling activity, soil conditions, depths, and other field data.
  • Help maintain drilling rigs, vehicles, and equipment to ensure safe and reliable operation.
  • Follow all company safety procedures and Maryland drilling regulations.
  • Support site preparation, logistics, and coordination with construction teams.
  • Participate in training and skill development required for advancement toward full driller certification.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support field operations.

Must-haves
  • Residency in or willingness to work in the DMV area with regular travel to job sites across the Mid‑Atlantic.
  • Ability to work under the supervision of a licensed driller in accordance with Maryland apprentice well driller standards.
  • Valid driver’s license with a safe driving record that meets company insurance requirements.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs overhead and perform sustained physical labor in all weather conditions.
  • Reliable transportation and willingness to travel to job sites within approximately 75 miles.
  • Strong work ethic, reliability, and willingness to learn.
Bonus points for
  • Previous experience in construction, drilling, heavy equipment operation, or mechanical trades.
  • Familiarity with drilling equipment, pumps, or heavy machinery.
  • CDL license or interest in obtaining one.
  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification.
  • Experience working on construction or outdoor job sites.
