Position: VOLUNTEER ACTIVITIES COORDINATOR III

Position Duties

Volunteer Activities Coordinator III is responsible for developing and planning a comprehensive volunteer services program in a state facility. The incumbent directs and supervises volunteer activities, educates the community on the value of volunteers, and may supervise support staff, students, and volunteers.

Planning & Directing Volunteer Programs:

  • Recruit, train, and supervise volunteers, interns, staff, and volunteer visitors entering the facilities, including background checks, interviews, paperwork coordination, orientation, and security.
  • Recruit and coordinate student interns, maintaining contact between agencies and college liaisons.
  • Recommend amendments to volunteer directives, establish guidance documents, and provide training materials.
  • Serve as point of contact for initial volunteer complaints, issues, and inquiries.

Related Administrative Duties:

  • Handle special administrative assignments requiring knowledge of regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Serve on committees to design evaluative tools, review policies, and develop initiatives using industry best practices.
  • Prepare periodic performance evaluations of volunteers.
  • Write reports, correspondence, newsletters, and other documents related to volunteer programs.
Minimum Qualifications

Applicants must meet all minimum qualifications to be considered for hire:

  • Education:

    Graduation from an accredited high school or a high‑school equivalency certificate.
  • Experience:

    Three years of planning, coordinating, and evaluating volunteer activities.
  • Credit Substitutions: 30 college credits may be substituted for one year of experience, and one year of experience may be substituted for one year of education.
Licenses, Registrations, and Certifications
  • Motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland for employees performing duties requiring vehicle operation.
  • Current certification in cardiopulmonary resuscitation, completed as required.
Special Requirements
  • Fluent in spoken and written English; respectful and effective communication with diverse populations.
  • Fluency in Spanish, Mandarin, Korean, or another language is a plus.
  • Must provide a reachable telephone number for the facility.
Selection Process
