Overview
Raytheon Subsystem Engineering and Photonics Group is actively seeking a Principal Embedded Software Engineer to join our team in Columbia, MD. The role focuses on designing, developing, and testing real‑time embedded software for RF and photonic systems.
Key Responsibilities- Design, implement, test, and debug integrated embedded real‑time software within heterogeneous systems composed of firmware and hardware.
- Collaborate with a multi‑disciplinary team to solve complex engineering problems.
- Perform hands‑on integration and troubleshooting to ensure functionality.
- Take ownership of significant portions of the embedded code base and become the subject matter expert.
- Assist the team in elevating software development practices.
- Perform and participate in internal and external technical reviews.
- Drive projects independently to meet program schedules and budgets.
- Travel up to 10%; this 1st‑shift role is 100% onsite.
- Typically a STEM degree and a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience.
- Experience in at least four of the following categories:
- Software‑defined radio.
- Signal processing.
- Real‑time embedded software/firmware development.
- Embedded Linux.
- ARM processors and system‑on‑chip (SoC) systems.
- FPGA development using Verilog, VHDL, or high‑level synthesis tools.
- Python or C programming.
- The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government‑issued security clearance (U.S. citizenship required).
- Degree in Electrical Engineering.
- Experience in digital signal processing.
- Experience with RF or photonic sensor systems.
- Experience with FPGA devices and SoC development.
- Familiarity with the Linux environment and commands.
- Experience in rapid prototyping and hardware integration.
- Self‑motivated problem solver with a positive attitude and willingness to learn.
- Self‑directed with minimal oversight.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team environment.
The salary range for this role is $118,300 – $224,900. Hired applicants may be eligible for medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short‑term and long‑term disability, 401(k) match, flexible spending accounts, flexible work schedules, employee assistance program, parental leave, paid time off, holidays, and annual incentive programs as applicable. Relocation is offered based on candidate eligibility.
Clearance RequirementsThis position requires a DoD Secret security clearance. Candidates must be U.S. citizens capable of obtaining and maintaining such a clearance.
