Position: Let's Kick It Soccer Camp Instructor

BRIEF DESCRIPTION

Let’s Kick It soccer camp is offered to youth participants of all ages. Activities include a variety of training exercises as well as controlled scrimmages between participants.

DUTIES
  • Assist in the organization and supervision of Lets Kick It soccer camp.
  • Assist in coordinating daily lesson plans to show progression of skill.
  • Works and cooperates with co-workers and supervisors at all levels.
  • Communicate clearly and courteously with school personnel, center staff, park staff, camp staff, Camp Supervisor, parents/guardians/caregivers, and children.
  • Responsible for the safety and general welfare of the program and participants.
  • Inspect all areas used by children on a daily basis for potentially hazardous conditions. Responsible for securing the building and/or outdoor space and all camp equipment/supplies before leaving the camp site.
  • Assist in setting up and taking down equipment and cleaning up area daily. Maintain cleanliness of the facility/camp location, including picking up trash, tidying, etc.
  • Provide written reports as needed.
  • Report accidents, property damage, or major disciplinary problems to the Camp Director as soon as possible. Ensure that all accident and incident reports are accurate, complete and turned into Camp Director in a timely manner.
  • Responsible for the day-to-day supervision of all staff including the junior counselors, camp leaders and camp aides.
  • May be required to administer medications upon completion of required training.
  • Wear Howard County staff badge and shirt at ALL times and dress appropriately for taking an active role with children.
  • Learns and performs all essential job functions accurately.
  • Attend all scheduled meetings and trainings.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as assigned by Camp Supervisor.
  • Adhere to all camp standards.
  • Must satisfy requirements of the Recreation and Parks Coaches Registry upon employment and prior to being scheduled by supervisor. Coaches Registry requirements include completion of the recommended Concussions in Youth Sport exam.
SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS
  • Sound philosophy of coaching and teaching with emphasis on fun and development of soccer skills.
  • Personal skills in soccer activities specific to position.
  • Experience working with children, youth, or teens.
  • Ability to demonstrate soccer specific skills, give positive and effective feedback to participants and parents.
  • Ability to teach soccer skills to youth participants in age-appropriate settings.
  • Ability to teach soccer skills with introductions, demonstrations, verbal instructions and to give positive and effective feedback to participants and parents.
  • Knowledge of age and ability adaptations for activities to ensure equal participation and success as it pertains to this specific soccer camp.
  • Ability to communicate and gain control over a large group of children.
EDUCATION

Background in Recreation or Physical Education.

EXPERIENCE

Must be at least 18 years old or high school graduate

LEADER I

Participation in soccer, some background working with children’s programs and possess knowledge in the activities offered. Meets Coaches Registry requirements. Have or obtain CPR and First Aid certification prior to the first day of camp (required).

LEADER II

At least one year of camp or sports experience. Knowledge of sports skills specific to position, background in coaching sports skills and/or leading children’s activities, CPR and First Aid certified.

RATE OF PAY

Contingent – salary commensurate with experience and certification.

  • Leader I:
    Minimum Wage - $18.00 per hour (Paraprofessional)
  • Leader II: $18.00 - $20.00 per hour (Professional)
