2026 Camp Support Specialist Seasonal Full-Time Primary PurposeProvide direct care for campers, including those with special needs or requiring additional accommodations, to have a safe and enjoyable camp experience. You will know you have succeeded in your job if campers feel they have had the best summer ever.
SupervisionUnder the direct supervision of the Recreation Coordinator / Recreation Superintendent.
Essential Functions- Assist supervisors in preparation for the summer day camp program throughout the spring, as available.
- Maintain a positive workplace and camp culture, treating all encountered with respect and preserving a personal positive attitude.
- Act as a positive role model for campers and staff, exemplifying good camp procedures.
- Communicate with parents without supervisors regarding camper struggles, particularly those with existing accommodations.
- Compile a binder listing children needing specific accommodations, from developmental delays to allergies.
- Support counselors in prioritizing mental health, self-advocacy, and positive coping mechanisms.
- Aid campers who require accommodations to ensure participation in activities and programs.
- Employ strategies to manage challenging behaviors promote positive interaction and social skills.
- Collaborate with staff, parents, and professionals to develop individualized plans for campers, including those without previous accommodations.
- Ensure the well-being of campers and staff, promptly addressing signs of distress or discomfort.
- Maintain a safe environment by attending shifts, meetings, and training punctually.
- Adhere strictly to safety policies and procedures.
- Report any issues regarding children or the program promptly to Supervisors.
- Perform other assigned duties.
- Demonstrated capability to work with children safely and effectively.
- Possesses a positive, upbeat, and dynamic personality, which is advantageous for the role.
- Essential to have strong communication skills.
- Applicant must be able to bend, sort, and reach both ground level and overhead.
- Applicant must be able to immerse themselves in up to five feet of water as they instruct swimming (can be treading water or standing, based on height).
- Applicant must be able to project their voice in loud environments.
- Applicant must be able to demonstrate appropriate skills.
- Subject to the City of Ozark drug and alcohol prevention and abuse ordinances.
- Must be able to pass a background check with the State of Missouri Family Care & Safety Registry.
- CPR/First Aid completed before the beginning of Summer
