Teacher – Social Studies (Middle School)
This position is responsible for providing engaging and effective classroom instruction and training in Social Studies education to Middle School students. The teacher will foster a dynamic learning environment that promotes inquiry-based learning, critical thinking, and collaboration.

Responsibilities and Duties:
- Meets and instructs assigned classes in the locations and at the times designated, both individually and collaboratively.
- Plans and implements a program of study that, as much as possible, meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of all students using data-driven decision making.
- Creates a positive, inclusive, and student-centered classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of all students.
- Prepares well-organized and differentiated lesson plans aligned with the board approved curriculum and submits written evidence of preparation upon request of immediate supervisor.
- Encourages students to develop and maintain high standards of classroom behavior, mutual respect, and active participation.
- Guides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and, in harmony with the goals, establishes and communicates clear learning objectives to students for all lessons and units.
- Employs a variety of research-based instructional strategies, including technology integration, project-based learning, and personalized learning approaches, consistent with the physical limitations of the location provided and the diverse needs and capabilities of individuals or student groups.
- Collaborate effectively with administrators, colleagues, parents, and the community to support student success.
- Implements, by instruction and action, the District's philosophy of education, instructional goals and objectives, and commitment to serving all students effectively.
- Assesses student learning through various methods, including formative and summative assessments, and provides timely and constructive feedback to students and parents.
- Evaluates the learning progress and challenges of students on a regular basis, utilizing data to inform instruction and seeking assistance from District specialists as needed and/or required.
- Takes necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
- Maintains accurate and complete records of student progress, attendance, and grades, as required by law, District policy, and administrative regulation.
- Assists the administration in implementing all policies and/or rules governing student life and conduct and develops clear expectations for classroom behavior and procedures that are consistently enforced in a fair and appropriate manner.
- Maintains open communication and provides accessibility to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day when required or requested to do so under reasonable terms.
- Plans and supervises purposeful assignments for teacher aide(s) and/or volunteer(s) where applicable.
- Engage in continuous professional development to enhance pedagogical skills, content knowledge, and understanding of current educational trends and technologies.
- Attends staff meetings, participates in professional learning communities, and serves on staff committees as needed.
Performs other duties as necessary to support the mission and vision of Columbia Public School District.

Qualifications:
Minimum:
Bachelor's degree;
Missouri teacher certificate in social studies 6-8.
Preferred:
Master's degree and 3 years of successful teaching experience.
