Teacher – Vocal Music (High School)
This position is responsible for vocal music classroom instruction and training at the high school level. This includes the continued development of students' vocal skills, music theory knowledge, and building confidence through performance. Candidates should have a strong background in choral conducting and vocal pedagogy. This position could be assigned to teach any combination of the following, but not limited to:
Concert Choir, Advanced Treble Choir, Show Choir, Tenor/Bass Choir, Musical Theatre/Production 1-3, Music Basics (guitar), Music Theory Honors, Beginning Piano, and Music Production and Engineering.

Responsibilities and Duties:
- Design and implement a comprehensive vocal music curriculum that includes vocal technique, music theory, sight-reading, ear training, and performance skills, aligned with state and national standards.
- Direct and rehearse choirs, vocal ensembles, and soloists, preparing students for concerts, competitions, festivals, and community performances.
- Create engaging, challenging lessons that develop students' understanding of vocal performance and music fundamentals.
- Foster a positive, inclusive classroom environment that supports students' growth, confidence, and self-expression.
- Provide constructive feedback to students to help them refine vocal techniques, ensemble singing, and overall musicianship.
- Organize and manage classroom materials, equipment, and sheet music; maintain a safe, organized learning space.
- Encourage students to participate in school-wide musical events, competitions, and workshops, promoting a culture of excellence in the arts.
- Collaborate with other teachers, music faculty, and school administration to integrate music into broader curriculum initiatives and support cross-disciplinary projects.
- Communicate with parents/guardians regarding student progress, performance opportunities, and any areas for improvement.
- Stay informed on trends in music education and explore new methodologies to enrich the vocal music program.
- Maintain accurate records of student performance, attendance, and behavior; communicate regularly with parents/guardians about student progress.
- Meets and instructs assigned classes in the locations and at the times designated both individually and collaboratively.
- Prepares for assigned classes and shows written evidence of preparation upon request of immediate supervisor.
- Will teach assigned fine art electives as needed by the district and building programs/curriculum (examples include beginning guitar, piano, intro audio engineering etc.)
- Encourages students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior.
- Participate in professional development opportunities, faculty meetings, and school events as required.
- Collaborates with administrators, colleagues, and parents in a positive and productive manner.
- Strives to implement by instruction and action, the district's philosophy of education and instructional goals and objectives.
- Maintains accurate and complete records as required by law, District policy, and administrative regulation.
- Assists the administration in implementing all policies and/or rules governing student life and conduct and develops reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedure while maintaining order in the classroom in a fair and appropriate manner.
- Makes provisions for being available to students and parents for education related purposes outside the instructional day when required or requested to do so under reasonable terms.
- Plans and supervises purposeful assignments for teacher aide(s) and/or volunteer(s) where applicable.
- Strives to maintain and improve professional competence.
- Perform other duties as necessary to support the mission and vision of Columbia Public School District.
