Early Childhood Apprentice

The Early Childhood Apprentice is an on‑site role within the Head Start Program where you will gain hands‑on learning in a classroom while earning an income and receiving guidance from early childhood education professionals.

The Early Childhood Apprentice will assist in providing continuity of services to Head Start and Early Head Start Centers.

• Assist the Lead Teacher and Teacher in providing educational and developmentally appropriate learning activities for children, including those with special needs.
• Assist the Lead Teacher and Teacher in attending educational conferences and home visits.
• Assist the Lead Teacher and Teacher with record keeping of individual children, including daily observations and information about activities, meals served, and medications administered.
• Assist in preparation of meals and maintain a clean and sanitary environment at Head Start Centers.
• Be responsible for a classroom of up to 20 children, providing appropriate activities and modeling family‑style dining during all meals.
• Assist in maintaining children’s safety in the classroom at all times, following all safety and supervision procedures.
• Provide educational assistance to Head Start children in a center‑based environment, including creation of individual lesson plans.
• Support children’s emotional and social development, encouraging understanding of others and positive self‑concepts.
• Attend all agency trainings as required.
• May provide other basic support functions (e.g., record keeping, answering phone) as needed.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

• High School/GED/HIFet required.
• Must be enrolled in Early Childhood Education courses in college.

• On‑site position – this is not a remote position.
• Rate of pay: $15.91 per hour, bi‑weekly pay.
