Teacher- AVID Site Coordinator and AVID Elective Teacher
The halftime (.50) AVID Site Coordinator position, housed at Oakland Middle School, is responsible for fidelity in implementing the AVID College Readiness System in the AVID elective classroom and school wide. The individual selected for this position will also be responsible for two sections (.50) of the AVID Elective course—and other teaching responsibilities as assigned by the building principal.
This position combines two of the most impactful roles in AVID implementation: leading the AVID program at the site level as the Site Coordinator, and working directly with AVID students every day as the AVID Elective Teacher. The individual in this role builds lasting relationships with students in the academic middle—many of whom will be the first in their families to attend college—while also shaping the school wide AVID culture through coordination with the principal, counselor, and District AVID Coordinator.
Oakland Middle School has an established AVID program and supportive building administration, with meaningful opportunity to build and strengthen the site team. The successful candidate joins a district with 13 years of AVID implementation and a District AVID Coordinator committed to site-level success.
AVID Coordinator:
- Serves as a strong advocate, committed to the philosophy of AVID, including support for equity and access for all students to advanced classes
- Provides leadership for the development and maintenance of an active AVID site team
- Acts as the liaison among the site team, principal, and District AVID Coordinator
- Acts as the liaison among the principal, AVID counselor, and AVID teachers
- Oversees and is responsible for certification and data collection, including engaging the members of the site team in the collection of evidence and providing data
- Collaborates with AVID elective teachers, site team, and administration to organize college campus visits and guest speakers for the AVID classrooms
- Collaborates with different school buildings and grade levels to articulate the curriculum and activities of AVID
- Advocates and provides professional learning regarding AVID methodologies for other staff members of the school and the district
- Supervises AVID tutors while they are working at the building, in collaboration with the AVID Elective teacher and District AVID Tutor Supervisor
AVID System Ambassador:
- Builds relationships and provides support for all stakeholders
- Maintains a global perspective as it relates to district-wide implementation of the AVID Elective, AVID School wide, and AVID Districtwide
- Advocates for the AVID College Readiness System in Columbia Public Schools
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and Google Suite products
- Communicates effectively via email, text, and phone calls
- Models organization of time and materials
- Meets regularly with the District AVID Coordinator
AVID Elective Teacher:
- Sets high expectations for student opportunities and monitors students' progress
- Functions as a well-respected instructional leader with at least three to five years of teaching experience
- Promotes the use of WICOR strategies by all AVID students and all classes
- Assists in the training of tutors using the AVID tutorial training materials
- Supervises AVID tutors during AVID Elective class periods, in collaboration with the AVID Site Coordinator and District AVID Tutor Supervisor
- Advocates for AVID students, especially with challenges of access and equity in advanced courses
- Assists the Site Team with certification and data collection (including senior data collection) and gathers Domain and Subdomain artifacts to verify performance levels for the Coaching and Certification Instrument (CCI)
- Promotes the use of school wide WICOR strategies across the campus
- Advocates and provides professional learning regarding AVID methodologies for other school and district staff members
- Serves as a member of the Site Team
District Teaching Expectations:
