Learning Commons Coordinator

The Learning Commons Coordinator leads the development, coordination, and delivery of student-centered academic support programs, services, and outreach initiatives that enhance engagement, learning, and academic success. This position plays a key role in creating a vibrant, welcoming Learning Commons environment by connecting students to academic resources, support services, and meaningful learning opportunities. The Coordinator works closely with faculty and campus partners to increase awareness and use of library services through events, instruction, and targeted outreach.

This role is responsible for building visibility, strengthening relationships, and creating accessible pathways for students to engage with the library and academic support services.

Essential Functions:

  • Plan, coordinate, and implement events and programs that promote student engagement with library services and resources
  • Develop recurring and high-impact initiatives (e.g., workshops, themed events, finals programming) that support student learning and success
  • Foster a welcoming and active Learning Commons environment through consistent presence and engagement
  • Develop and implement outreach strategies to increase awareness and use of library services
  • Coordinate marketing efforts, including social media, campus communications, and promotional materials
  • Collaborate with campus departments to promote services and events to targeted student populations
  • Build relationships with faculty to promote Learning Commons services and connect students to academic support resources
  • Partner with faculty to support assignment-related programming and student learning needs
  • Serve as a point of contact for faculty engagement related to Learning Commons services
  • Provide front-facing support to students seeking help with research, study strategies, and use of library resources
  • Connect students to appropriate academic support services and campus resources
  • Assist with basic instruction and workshops related to research skills and academic success
  • Support course-related engagement efforts and embedded service models as appropriate
  • Collect and analyze data related to program attendance, outreach efforts, and service usage
  • Use feedback and data to refine programming and improve student engagement
  • Contribute to reporting on library usage and student engagement outcomes
  • Assist in training student workers and part-time staff on engagement practices and service expectations
  • Support day-to-day library operations, including service desk coverage as needed
  • Contribute to a collaborative, service-oriented team environment
  • Provides guidance and training to student workers and part-time staff
  • May assume direct supervision of student workers, including scheduling, training, and performance oversight, as the Learning Commons model and staffing structure evolve
  • Participate in professional development.
  • Participate in Columbia College and MOBIUS consortium committees and state library organizations, as appropriate.
  • Perform general research and circulation duties.
  • Actively participate in divisional and college committees and institutional planning.
  • Perform job duties in accordance with Columbia College's vision, mission and values, and contributes to the development of the Student Experience Division.
  • Practice superior customer service.
  • Attend and assist with implementation of major Student Experience and College functions, including but not limited to, Homecoming, Quest Day, Welcome Week, College Visitation events, Ivy Chain, Commencement, Late Night Breakfast, and Student Experience Night of Recognition.
  • Fulfill additional responsibilities as assigned.

Required Core Competencies and Professional

Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field
  • 1-3 years of experience in higher education, student engagement, library services, or academic support
