The Adjunct EMS Instructor provides classroom, laboratory, simulation, clinical, and field instruction for students enrolled in Osage Ambulance District’s EMS Education programs. Under the direction of the Director of EMS Education and Program Coordinator(s), the Adjunct EMS Instructor is responsible for delivering high-quality instruction, evaluating student performance, promoting student success, and assisting with curriculum development and program improvement.

Adjunct instructors serve as subject matter experts and role models while maintaining compliance with Missouri Bureau of EMS regulations, National EMS Education Standards, accreditation requirements when applicable, and District policies. Adjunct instructors may teach no more than twenty percent (20%) of any individual EMS course or program unless otherwise approved.

Essential Job Functions
  • Provide classroom, laboratory, simulation, clinical, and field instruction for EMT, Advanced EMT, Paramedic, Community Paramedic, continuing education, and specialty EMS courses as assigned.
  • Prepare lesson plans, instructional materials, practical skills sessions, and student assignments consistent with approved curricula.
  • Evaluate student knowledge, psychomotor skills, professionalism, and clinical competency.
  • Document student attendance, grades, clinical performance, and progression in accordance with program policies.
  • Maintain confidentiality of student, employee, and patient information.
  • Assist students through mentoring, academic advisement, and remediation when appropriate.
  • Participate in curriculum review, program evaluation, accreditation activities, and continuous quality improvement.
  • Assist with development and revision of lesson plans, examinations, skills testing, and educational materials.
  • Maintain competency in assigned instructional areas through continuing education.
  • Ensure compliance with Missouri Bureau of EMS regulations, National EMS Education Standards, and District policies.
  • Work collaboratively with faculty, clinical affiliates, preceptors, and healthcare partners.
  • Assist the Director of EMS Education with identifying instructional equipment and supply needs.
  • Participate in instructor meetings, orientation sessions, and faculty development activities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Work Schedule

This is a part-time, as-needed position. Adjunct EMS Instructors may teach daytime, evening, weekend, or occasional online courses. Hours vary based upon course assignments and program needs.

Education & Licensure

Current Missouri licensed Paramedic or Registered Nurse in good standing. Current Missouri Certified EMS Instructor. Current instructor certification meeting or exceeding the U.S. DOT National EMS Instructor Curriculum or equivalent. Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) Instructor certification.

Preferred Certifications

ACLS Instructor, PALS Instructor, ITLS or PHTLS Instructor, National Registry certification.

Experience Required

Minimum two (2) years of experience as a Paramedic or Registered Nurse in emergency or critical care. Demonstrated competency in the subject matter assigned.

Preferred

One (1) year of EMS teaching experience. Experience with classroom instruction, simulation, and clinical education.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
