Empower students to achieve independence as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist for the upcoming school year. This full-time contract role spans August 24th through May 28th and serves elementary, middle, and high school students throughout a welcoming school district near Lees Summit, MO. Your expertise will be essential in supporting students who are blind or visually impaired, helping them develop the confidence and practical skills to thrive.

Qualifications:

• National-level certification as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist (COMS/ACVREP)
• Experience working with students who are blind or visually impaired strongly preferred
• Ability to travel between multiple school sites within a district
• Strong communication and collaboration skills
• Passion for fostering independence and practical life skills

Primary Responsibilities:

• Directly provide orientation and mobility instruction to students across a range of grade levels
• Conduct assessments and develop individualized plans to address students' unique needs
• Teach vital skills such as cane travel, use of assistive technology, navigating public spaces, and daily living tasks like shopping and money management
• Collaborate with school staff and family members to create supportive learning environments
• Guide and instruct on the safe use of guide dogs and other tools as appropriate
• Maintain detailed records of student progress and services delivered
