The Lead Field Service Engineer works under general guidance and minimal supervision, performing a wide range of engineering tasks and ensuring proper installation, service and commissioning of products and services. The engineer provides technical support for installation and commissioning of projects, maintenance, breakdown emergency support, and remote troubleshooting.
Essential Responsibilities- Perform installation and commissioning on drive systems at customer site locations during ship construction.
- Conduct troubleshooting activities at site locations during scheduled port visits or at sea to diagnose problems, determine appropriate resolution, and implement corrective actions.
- Execute a wide range of engineering tasks to ensure the technical integrity and proper installation and commissioning of equipment.
- Develop documentation to execute work such as commissioning and maintenance procedures, and provide customer training.
- Lead on‑site project management and technical duties to resolve customer issues and provide customer satisfaction.
- Identify sales opportunities for service agreements, spare parts, training, and upgrades.
- Provide on‑call support in response to customer calls for service.
- Assist in the growth and direction of the North American business.
- Provide support to engineering teams working on customer upgrade projects.
- Complete timely service reports and other administrative requirements.
- Perform work on‑board vessels within GE / Customer safety guidelines either in shipyards or offshore.
- Extended hours or overtime may be required during peak periods and emergency circumstances.
- Domestic or overseas travel to customer sites for extended periods of time.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline from an accredited college or university.
- OR Associate’s Degree or related discipline from an accredited college or university with a minimum of 5 additional years of related industry experience.
- OR School diploma or GED equivalency with a minimum of 8 years of related industry experience.
- Ability and willingness to travel 85% of the time on short notice.
- Physically fit to board vessels offshore.
- Previous marine industry experience.
- Ability to pass Helicopter Underwater Egress Training (HUET) and offshore survival course including swimming pool activities for potential offshore work.
- US Person with ability to achieve security clearance for Department of Defense projects.
- Possesses leadership qualities that align with GE Vernova Way.
- Background in a customer‑facing service environment.
- Ability to execute increasingly complex assignments requiring engineering skill, creativity and independent judgment.
- Work environment includes construction‑type settings, wet/humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, extreme temperatures, electrical shock risk, slips and falls, and potentially excessive noise requiring PPE.
- Strong computer proficiency and technical aptitude with MS Office applications.
Base pay range: $78,800 – $131,200 (may be adjusted based on experience, education and skill set). Position eligible for performance bonus/variable incentive compensation and equity. Geographic differential of 110%, 120%, or 130% of salary in certain areas.
