Pay – $15.00 an hour
The Information Technology (IT) Intern assists the State Tech IT Department in providing technical support to faculty, staff, and students. This position offers hands‑on experience in help desk operations, computer hardware and software support, account administration, networking, cybersecurity practices, and technology project implementation. The intern works under the supervision of IT staff while developing professional skills in a higher education environment.
State Tech's IT environment supports academic programs, administrative operations, and campus technology services.
- Provide first-level technical support for computer hardware, software, printers, mobile devices, and classroom technology.
- Assist with deployment, setup, imaging, and configuration of computers and peripheral equipment.
- Troubleshoot and resolve basic technical issues through the help desk ticketing system.
- Support user account management, password resets, and access requests.
- Assist with inventory management and documentation of IT assets.
- Install software updates, patches, and operating system upgrades.
- Help maintain technology in classrooms, labs, and administrative offices.
- Assist with network and connectivity troubleshooting.
- Support cybersecurity initiatives, including user awareness and security best practices.
- Create and update technical documentation, knowledge base articles, and user guides.
- Participate in special projects related to technology improvements and campus initiatives.
- Maintain confidentiality of student and employee information in accordance with FERPA and institutional policies.
- Enrolled in a State Tech technology‑related program such as Computer Networking & Cyber Security, Computer Application Development, Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field.
- Basic knowledge of Microsoft Windows operating systems and Microsoft 365 applications.
- Strong customer service and communication skills.
- Ability to diagnose and resolve basic computer hardware and software issues.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to lift and move computer equipment up to 50 pounds.
- Experience with computer repair, networking, or technical support.
- Familiarity with Active Directory, Microsoft 365 administration, or help desk systems.
- CompTIA A+, Network+, or similar certification coursework.
- Knowledge of cybersecurity principles and best practices.
- Primarily indoor office and campus environment.
- Frequent interaction with students, faculty, staff, and vendors.
- May require occasional evening or weekend work for special projects or campus events.
