Overview
Missouri Baptist Medical Center is an acute care hospital in St. Louis County offering a continuum of medical and surgical services. The Progressive Care Unit (PCU) is a 16‑bed inpatient unit caring for post‑operative cardiovascular and thoracic surgical patients once they no longer require intensive CVR monitoring.
Role PurposeProvides direct patient care support to licensed professional nurses for a team of patients, ensuring a safe environment and reducing risk of harm.
Responsibilities- Implements direct patient care under the supervision of the nurse, promoting patient and family centered care in a healing environment. Administers or assists patients with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs), performs vital signs, intake & output, fall and pressure ulcer prevention measures, urinary catheter care, phlebotomy, or point‑of‑care testing as requested.
- Collects clinical data and information on patients, and reports changes in patient status to the nurse.
- Assists nurse with patient and family education. Documents all patient care activities with correct medical terminology. Acts as 1:1 patient safety sitter as necessary.
- Ensures availability of supplies and equipment to meet each patient's needs.
- Participates in activities that promote patient safety, quality and regulatory compliance. Participates in professional development.
Minimum Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED
Preferred Requirements
- Certified Nurse Assistant
36 hours per week. Requires overnight shifts 6:45 pm‑7:15 am, holiday rotation, and every third weekend. Must attend a 2‑week orientation Mon‑Fri 7:30 am‑4:00 pm.
