Staff Nurse Inpatient Float Pool

MU Health Care is looking for a passionate and adaptable Staff Nurse to join our Inpatient Float Pool. This position requires the ability to float to designated nursing unit clusters and shifts to meet staffing needs throughout MU Health Care. Units/clusters include:
University Hospital, Women's Hospital, Children's Hospital, Missouri Psychiatric Center (MUPC), Missouri Orthopaedic Institute (MOI), and Capital Region Medical Center (CRMC). Clusters are chosen on hire and updated through years of service. Your ability to float between different nursing units within a specific cluster will be crucial in meeting our staffing needs and ensuring the highest standards of care. Assess the patient's condition and nursing needs, set goals, and prescribe appropriate nursing actions to meet those goals and the physical, psychological, social, and rehabilitative needs of the patient, including discharge planning.

Assess, intervene, and reassess the patient's self-report/symptoms of pain promptly. Utilize an appropriate tool for assessment and reassessment.

Demonstrate an understanding of medications regarding action and side effects. Report pertinent information to the appropriate individual. Educate patients and significant others about their medications.

Demonstrate the ability to evaluate the effectiveness of nursing interventions in accomplishing goals and intended patient care outcomes.

Maintain the standards of nursing care and implement the policies and procedures of the hospital and assigned nursing unit.

Participate in meetings, in-services, and quality and performance improvement groups.

Report pertinent observations and reactions regarding patients to the appropriate person (i.e. physicians, head nurse, charge nurse, or nursing supervisor) and record those observations accurately and concisely.

Provide quality care to patients and work with multi-disciplinary teams to ensure the highest patient satisfaction.

May complete unit/department-specific duties as outlined in department documents.

Missouri Board of Nursing RN or Nurse Licensure Compact multi-state RN. When primary state of residency changes, compact state RNs must apply under new state of residency within thirty (30) days.

One (1) year of acute care RN experience.

Additional license/certification requirements as determined by the hiring department.

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met with or without reasonable accommodation. The performance of these physical demands is an essential function of the job. This position is very active and requires ambulating, reaching, and moving objects weighing up to and over 20 lbs.

This role also routinely comes into contact with patients who may have contagious illnesses. This position is in a health care facility open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Rotating shifts as well as holiday and work during inclement weather will be required.
