Charge RN

Mercy is seeking a dedicated Charge RN to provide clinical leadership and coordinate patient care in our Healthcare & Medical Services department. In this role, you will oversee nursing staff, ensure high-quality, safe patient care, and support daily unit operations. You will collaborate with physicians and interdisciplinary teams, mentor nurses, and promote evidence-based practices. • Coordinate and oversee clinical operations and patient flow on the assigned unit and shift.
• Assign and adjust nursing and support staff workloads based on patient acuity, census, and staff competencies.
• Serve as an on-shift clinical resource, providing guidance and support for complex patient care situations.
• Participate in direct patient care, including assessments, medication administration, procedures, and education as needed.
• Collaborate with physicians and interdisciplinary team members to develop, implement, and evaluate patient care plans.
• Facilitate safe and efficient admissions, transfers, and discharges while maintaining continuity and quality of care.
• Lead or support emergency responses, including codes and rapid response events, ensuring organized team coordination.
• Reinforce adherence to Mercy policies, procedures, regulatory requirements, and infection prevention standards.
• Monitor unit quality and safety indicators, reporting concerns and participating in performance improvement initiatives.
• Mentor, coach, and precept new nurses and students, promoting a culture of continuous learning and professional growth.
• Support effective communication through shift huddles, handoffs, and timely escalation of critical information to providers and leadership.

• Active, unrestricted RN license in state of practice
• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred or in progress
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
• Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification (or obtained within defined timeframe)
• Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) or other unit-specific certifications as applicable
• Prior charge nurse or lead RN experience strongly preferred
• Experience in acute care, med-surg, telemetry, or relevant specialty
• Familiarity with EHR systems (e.g., Epic or similar)
• Demonstrated leadership and precepting experience
