Job Summary

The Registered Nurse is a professional practitioner who assesses, manages, directs, and provides nursing care activities during the patient’s hospital stay and coordinates planning with other disciplines utilizing a patient/customer‑driven approach.

Responsibilities Assessment
  • Performs comprehensive nursing assessment and reassessment.
  • Conducts age‑appropriate admission or transfer assessments, obtaining family/guardian input when appropriate.
  • Documents findings accurately and completely.
  • Assesses post‑operative and post‑invasive procedure patients.
  • Evaluates education and discharge needs of patient and family throughout hospitalization.
  • Provides ongoing reassessment, documenting observations, changes in condition, and responses to care.
Planning
  • Develops, coordinates, and evaluates a plan of care based on assessment data, diagnosis, labs, orders, protocols, and standards.
  • Identifies short‑ and long‑term goals based on patient needs.
  • Formulates nursing interventions to achieve desired outcomes.
  • Incorporates evidence‑based practice and disease‑specific guidelines into planning and documentation.
Implementation
  • Collaboration with interdisciplinary team for daily plan of care.
  • Coordination and communication of patient care, including accurate handoff reports.
  • Administration and documentation of medications, IV fluids, and parenteral nutrition per policy.
  • Completes referrals and requests consultations for special needs or equipment.
  • Provides patient/family education and discharge planning per protocols.
  • Clarifies and implements physician orders accurately and timely.
  • Assists physician with procedures or delegates to appropriate team members.
  • Documents readback for telephone/verbal orders and limits verbal orders to emergencies.
  • Recognizes changes in patient condition and takes appropriate nursing actions.
  • Involves family/guardian in care and decision‑making when appropriate.
  • Applies infection control practices daily.
  • Communicates changes in patient condition or nursing care as needed.
Evaluation
  • Evaluates and documents effectiveness of care, interventions, medication and treatment responses.
  • Assesses effectiveness of patient/family education.
  • Modifies plan of care as indicated.
  • Reports significant changes and problems promptly to physician and relevant staff.
  • Reports variations from care/treatment per reporting policy.
Specialized Care
  • Provides specialized care to patients at high risk for injury.
  • Restraint Care: initiates/evaluates alternatives to restraint, applies restraints per procedure, monitors response, ensures timely patient care, documents use.
  • Pain Management: assesses pain, incorporates cultural/spiritual beliefs into plan, implements preventive techniques, engages patient/family, considers alternative controls (massage, repositioning, music therapy).
  • Abuse Assessment: recognizes abuse criteria, reports signs to appropriate authorities, takes action to support patient safety.
Performance, Quality & Learning
  • Adheres to all quality, performance standards, policies, and procedures.
  • Participates in learning experiences to increase competence.
  • Demonstrates technical and cognitive skills for the practice area.
  • Maintains currency with hospital/unit information, policies, and procedures.
  • Attends staff meetings, reviews minutes, and participates in committees, shared governance, and work teams.
  • Provides feedback, adapts to changes, and supports peers and coworkers.
  • Opens and maintains a collaborative team approach.
Instruction & Mentorship
  • Orients and precepts new employees or students as required.
  • Supervises and teaches student or new staff nurses.
  • Delegates care and activities appropriately.
  • Communicates plan of care clearly and professionally to all team members.
Safety & Infection Control
  • Practices standard precautions and disposes of hazardous waste per guidelines.
  • Maintains a safe, clean, and therapeutic environment in patient rooms and common areas.
  • Follows hand hygiene and safe patient handling protocols.
  • Represents dress code compliance.
  • Reports risk‑management concerns via eSRM.
Annual Mandatory Requirements
