Job Summary
Plans and coordinates care for adult patients in the Cardiac Cath Lab, ensuring quality, efficient, and safe care consistent with unit standards. Demonstrates competency skills appropriate to the clinical area.
ScheduleMonday – Friday (4–10 hour shifts) with a call schedule of 7–9 shifts per period, including weekend call rotation.
Primary Responsibilities- Performs on the Cath Lab procedure team as circulator, scrub, or monitor.
- Prepares patients in the holding area, ensuring correct pre‑procedure setup and timely provision of history and physical data.
- Uses critical judgment for patient assessment, administers medications, and reports abnormal findings to the physician promptly.
- Performs hemostasis safely with or without vascular devices.
- Routinely enters patient orders and charges, checking accuracy of charges.
- Provides care for critically ill patients, functioning independently in stressful situations.
- Educates patients and families, documents education, and informs them of tests and treatments.
- Assists families to the cardiology or Cath Lab areas as needed.
- May perform point‑of‑care testing according to policies and procedures.
- Maintains a constant state of alertness and safety.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Graduate of an accredited nursing school or equivalent education for licensing.
- No experience required.
- Constant use of speech and oral communication.
- Constant standing and walking.
- Frequent lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling objects weighing 0–25 lbs.
- Frequent sitting, reaching, and keyboard use/data entry.
- Frequent use of vision and depth perception at near (20 inches or less) and far (20 feet or more) distances, and to identify and distinguish colors.
- Frequent use of smell to detect odors.
- Frequent use of hearing for oral communication, body sounds, alarms, and machinery sounds.
- Occasional lifting, carrying, or pulling of objects weighing 25–50 lbs.
- Occasional lifting/moving of patients.
- Occasional bending, stooping, kneeling, squatting, twisting, gripping, and repetitive foot/leg and hand/arm movements.
- Occasional driving.
- Rare crawling and running.
- Basic Life Support Health Care Provider (BLS HCP) – American Heart Association (AHA)
- Registered Nurse (RN) – state-specific licensing (Illinois, Missouri, Oklahoma, Wisconsin, or Compact State)
- Advanced Life Support (ALS) – American Heart Association (AHA) or Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) – American Heart Association (AHA)
