Campus Safety Officer
The Campus Safety Officer will assist in providing campus-wide public safety for college staff, students and visitors in coordination with local law enforcement and emergency personnel. Duties include patrolling campus property while enforcing safety regulations. While on patrol, responsibilities include assessment and identification of possible hazards (i.e., lighting, fire safety and mechanical areas). This position is designated by the institution as a "Campus Security Authority" (CSA).
As a CSA, you are required to report any information you receive about crimes occurring on or near campus to the Director of Campus Safety.
Essential Functions:
- Perform job duties in accordance with Columbia College's vision, mission and values, and contributes to the development of the Campus Safety Department.
- Practice superior customer service.
- Follow departmental chain of command
- Utilize emergency safety software and applications as appropriate.
- Fulfill additional responsibilities as assigned.
- Assist the Office of Campus Safety in ensuring compliance with Clery Act and Title IX
- Notify college administrators within their chain of command regarding critical incidents on and around campus.
- Display respect and civility to all constituencies in all communications.
- Attend work timely and on a regular basis during the established hours of operation; work additional hours as business necessitates.
- Provide assistance for campus-wide public safety for college staff, students and visitors in coordination with local law enforcement and emergency personnel.
- Patrol campus property, observe and report suspicious or criminal activity and enforce safety regulations.
- Assess and identify possible hazards, monitor communications, and communicate with other safety officers, staff, students and visitors.
- Complete appropriate paperwork regarding work orders and safety notices.
- Assist campus visitors with directions and contact information as requested.
- Follow opening and closing procedures ensuring all doors and windows are properly secured.
- Check email daily
- Record crimes and/or fires on campus in the Daily Crime / Fire Log
- Provide safety escorts for faculty, staff, students and guests when reasonably requested.
- Unlock rooms and offices as directed or per departmental policy.
- Assess and identify potential problems or malfunctions of fire safety equipment and devices, including but not limited to fire suppression devices, sprinkler systems, fire extinguishers and fire doors.
- Develop and maintain a working knowledge and understanding of all procedures and policies.
- Respond to emergency situations, obtain essential information and submit the appropriate incident reports and safety notices as needed.
- Personally address safety conditions (i.e., mop up spills, assist with snow removal, etc.).

Required Core Competencies and Professional
Experience:
- Ability to fluently read, write, and understand the English language.
- Proficiency with the following but not limited to: active listening; speaking; writing; critical thinking; judgment and decision making; monitoring; reading comprehension; time management; coordination; and management of personnel resources.
- Proficiency for using a variety of computer and technology-related software and equipment, including Microsoft Office products and database systems.
- Proficiency in using web-based technologies, including database systems.
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment, with or without direct supervision.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, customer service, and organizational skills.
- High School diploma or GED.
- Two years related work experience.
Preferred Core Competencies and Professional
Experience:
- Associate Degree or equivalent in training.
- One year supervisory experience.
Special Requirements:
- Valid driver's license with a good driving record.
- Must possess or be capable of obtaining a Class E driver license.
- Must be willing to work an eight-hour or ten-hour shift.
- Must be willing to work special events as necessary.
