Accounting Specialist

Description We are looking for a detail-oriented Accounting Specialist to join our team in Columbia, South Carolina. In this role, you will support various financial operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, reconciliations, and journal entries. This is a Contract to permanent position that offers a great opportunity to grow within the organization.

Responsibilities:

- Prepare and reconcile accounts, including cash receipts, adjustments, and benefit invoices.

- Record journal entries with precision and maintain accurate accounting ledgers.

- Manage fixed asset and inventory records while ensuring proper documentation.

- Produce financial reports and variance analyses to support management decision-making.

- Assist with monthly closings, ensuring financial statement accuracy, and supporting annual audits.

- Reconcile credit card transactions and assist with funding requests.

- Collaborate on budget preparation and monitor departmental or project expenses.

- Provide financial support to project managers and respond to accounting-related inquiries.

- Act as backup for the Finance & Accounting Manager and Staff Accountant as needed.

- Perform additional tasks to support the Finance Department as assigned. Requirements - Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a related field is preferred.

- 2-3 years of experience in general accounting or a similar role.

- Proficiency in Excel and other Microsoft Office applications.

- Familiarity with Momentix software or similar general ledger systems.

- Strong understanding of accounting principles, including debits and credits.

- Experience with accounts payable, accounts receivable, and billing functions.

- Ability to manage account reconciliations and journal entries effectively.

- Excellent problem-solving and interpersonal skills with a focus on collaboration.
