Staff Accountant

Description We are looking for a detail-oriented Staff Accountant to support core accounting operations for a long-term contract opportunity in Columbia, South Carolina. This position is ideal for someone who can manage day-to-day financial activities with accuracy, maintain reliable records, and contribute to timely reporting. The role offers the opportunity to work across tax and general accounting functions while helping ensure compliance with corporate financial requirements.

Responsibilities:

- Prepare and record journal entries to support accurate monthly and periodic financial reporting.

- Maintain the general ledger by reviewing account activity, resolving discrepancies, and ensuring balances are properly supported.

- Assist with corporate tax activities, including the preparation of schedules and documentation needed for filings.

- Support sales tax processes by compiling transaction data, verifying tax treatment, and helping complete required submissions.

- Contribute to the preparation of corporate tax returns by organizing financial information and reconciling supporting records.

- Review accounting data for accuracy and completeness, identifying issues and working with internal teams to correct them.

- Help close accounting periods on schedule by completing assigned reconciliations and financial analyses.

- Maintain organized accounting documentation to support audits, tax reporting, and internal control requirements. Requirements - Experience working in a Staff Accountant or similar accounting role.

- Knowledge of corporate tax principles and related accounting practices.

- Hands-on experience supporting sales tax reporting and compliance activities.

- Ability to assist with corporate tax return preparation and supporting documentation.

- Proficiency in preparing journal entries and maintaining accurate accounting records.

- Working knowledge of general ledger processes, account reconciliation, and financial data review.

- Strong attention to detail with the ability to manage deadlines and prioritize multiple responsibilities.
