Accounting Specialist

Description We are looking for an Accounting Specialist to support day-to-day financial operations for a Contract position based in Columbia, South Carolina. This role is well suited for someone who enjoys hands-on accounting work, can step in quickly, and is comfortable managing recurring transactional tasks with accuracy and consistency. The ideal candidate will help maintain financial records, process key accounting activities, and provide dependable support while the team addresses current staffing needs.

Responsibilities:

- Manage routine accounts payable and accounts receivable activities, ensuring transactions are processed accurately and on schedule.

- Prepare invoices, support billing activities, and follow through on payment tracking and related documentation.

- Record financial transactions in Quick Books Online and maintain organized, up-to-date accounting records.

- Print and process checks, including manual payments, while following established controls and approval procedures.

- Post journal entries and assist with adjusting entries to keep the general ledger accurate.

- Reconcile accounts and investigate discrepancies to support timely and reliable month-end close activities.

- Assist with draw model preparation and compile supporting financial details for review.

- Provide administrative and system-based accounting support, including work within Yardi and expense management tools as needed. Requirements - Experience handling both accounts payable and accounts receivable functions in an accounting environment that requires strong attention to detail.

- Proficiency with Quick Books and the ability to enter, review, and maintain accurate financial data.

- Familiarity with Yardi and expense management platforms is strongly preferred.

- Working knowledge of billing processes, account reconciliations, and general accounting procedures.

- Ability to prepare and post journal entries, including adjustments, with strong attention to detail.

- Experience processing checks, including manual check runs, in a controlled and accurate manner.

- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple recurring tasks in a part-time contract setting.
