The Nuclear Company is the fastest growing AI tech-enabled startup in the nuclear and energy space, pioneering a fleet-scale approach to building the next generation of nuclear reactors. Through our design-once, build-many model, we're accelerating the deployment of safe, reliable, and affordable nuclear energy.

We operate with an AI-first mindset. Every employee is expected to leverage AI, technology, and the Nuclear Operating System (NOS) as integral components of their role to improve the quality, speed, and impact of their work. We expect every team member to continuously identify opportunities to automate workflows, enhance decision-making, improve processes, and contribute to the ongoing evolution of NOS as a strategic operating capability that enables The Nuclear Company to scale with excellence.

We hire people who are driven by purpose, thrive in ambiguity, and are energized by building what has never been built before. Our team combines intellectual curiosity with high agency, embraces candid feedback and continuous learning, and holds themselves and others to exceptional standards. Our values—Transparency, Responsibility, Unity, Scrappy, and Tenacity—guide how we hire, collaborate, and make decisions every day. They are not words on a wall;

they are the standard by which we operate. TRUST is the foundation of our safety culture, fostering intellectual honesty, accountability, and open communication, while our values challenge every team member to execute with urgency, humility, resilience, and an unwavering commitment to our mission.

About the Role

The Director of Accounting, Services owns the integrity of the Nuclear Services financials and the segment's controllership as TNC builds the business both organically and inorganically. Reporting solid-line to the CAO, preserving a clean line of accounting policy, control, and reporting authority, the role owns month-end close, consolidation handoffs, and the harmonization/consistent application of policy and procedures across all segment entities/businesses.

The role works in lockstep with the Head of Finance, Services on financial reporting handoffs and with Corporate Controllership and the external auditor to keep the segment audit-ready and on a credible path to SOX/ICFR readiness. This is a build-it-as-we-scale controllership role that simultaneously improves/scales internal capabilities while integrating new acquisitions as the business grows.

Responsibilities
  • Month end close. Own the accuracy, completeness, and timeliness of the division's books — month-end close and reporting into corporate consolidation — working in lockstep with the Corporate Controller on process, policy, close calendar, and consolidation handoffs.
  • Technical accounting & policy. Ensure consistent application of accounting policy across all Service segment entities (including acquired) revenue recognition (ASC 606), cost accounting/capitalization, and intercompany under corporate standards set by the CAO and aligned with Corporate Controllership and external auditor (PwC).
  • Purchase accounting & integration. Drive purchase accounting for any acquisitions (opening balance sheets, identification of intangibles, and post-acquisition true-ups in partnership with the technical accounting lead and Corporate Controller).
  • Systems & controls. Onboard and support the integration of acquired businesses onto TNC's ERP and finance systems (e.g., Net Suite), processes, retiring legacy tools and disparate processes; ensure the division's data, documentation, and processes are audit-ready and can withstand robust requirement.
  • Elevation of company financial reporting. Support SOX/ICFR implementation and public-company-like reporting discipline and timelines for the segment through the transition to TNC standards and culture.
Required Experience
  • 10+ years of progressive accounting/controllership experience, including a senior accounting leadership role (Controller, Assistant Controller, or divisional controllership).
  • Strong technical accounting foundation under US GAAP — revenue recognition for services, professional services,…
