Job Responsibilities
Receives, sorts, and distributes incoming mail; processes outgoing mail.
Coordinates agency postal services.
Supervises employees engaged in mail handling tasks.
Maintains records of insured and registered mail; maintains billing records.
Requires knowledge of policies, regulations and procedures for handling mail, knowledge of filing systems and the maintenance of office records.
Also requires use of postal meters and scales.
Corresponding detailed records; reports transactions to SCDC financial accounting branch.
Ensures inmate legal mail is received and distributed in accordance with applicable policies and procedures.
Assists with coordinating postage meter maintenance and replenishment and postage meter monthly summary reports.
Performs mailroom duties in the absence of the postal director
Must successfully complete four (4) weeks of SCDC Basic Training upon hire.

State of South Carolina Minimum Requirements: A high school diploma and work experience in postal, courier, or delivery operations.
SCDC Minimum Requirements:
- A high school diploma and one (1) year of work experience in postal, courier, or delivery operations.
- An associate's degree or higher may be substituted for the required work experience.
