Job Summary
The University of South Carolina invites applications for a full-time, professional-track Instructor position in the Department of Criminology and Criminal Justice to begin August 16, 2026. The initial appointment may be for one or three years, and may be renewed, contingent upon satisfactory performance, departmental needs, and the availability of funding. Renewal for each subsequent year is also contingent upon satisfactory performance and available funds.
Responsibilities include teaching undergraduate courses, advising undergraduate students, directing undergraduate student research as needed, providing service to the Department of Criminology and Criminal Justice at USC
-Columbia, and keeping up with new and developing knowledge and issues in the field.
The position is a professional-track, 9-month appointment with a teaching load of 8 courses for the academic year (4 each major semester). While some instructional assignments may include distance delivery, instructors must be available for on-campus courses in Columbia.
Required
Education and Experience
* Applicants must hold a master's, JD, or Ph.D. degree and have completed at least 18 graduate credit hours in criminology, criminal justice, or a closely related field by the time of appointment.
* Applicants must be capable of teaching introductory and upper-division undergraduate courses.
* Commitment to excellence in teaching and fostering student learning is expected.
* The university provides opportunities for promotion to higher non-tenure track ranks for eligible instructors.
Preferred Qualifications
* Commitment to excellence in teaching and fostering student learning is expected, and experience as a professional in the field is a plus.
