Senior Power Generation Project Manager

At HDR, our employee-owners are fully engaged in creating a welcoming environment where each of us is valued and respected, a place where everyone is empowered to bring their authentic selves and novel ideas to work every day. As we foster a culture of inclusion throughout our company and within our communities, we constantly ask ourselves:
What is our impact on the world? Each and every role throughout our organization makes a difference in our ability to change the world for the better. We believe electricity powers modern life. As part of our Power sector, you'll help shape how electricity is generated, transmitted and delivered as global energy demands grow. From massive data centers to modernizing transmission systems, our industry-recognized engineers and scientists have been at the forefront of grid transformation for more than a century.

You'll work side-by-side with these experts and contribute to reliable, resilient and sustainable power systems, helping communities thrive and industries expand. This isn't just a job, it's a chance to drive infrastructure forward, power innovation and leave your mark on our energy future.

The power generation market continues to grow and evolve given strong capacity demand signals that haven't existed for over a decade. As a result, our national Power Generation team is poised for monumental growth. We are seeking a qualified Senior Project Manager to join our South Carolina team to help our clients develop, contract, and implement natural gas and potentially renewable energy generation projects while serving as Owner's Engineer and/or Advisor.

HDR has established and growing offices in North Charleston, Columbia, Greenville, and Fort Mill, South Carolina, well positioned to support our state's design demands for utilities, data centers, and renewable energy.

As a Senior Project Manager, you will be joining a highly capable, multi-discipline national team that supports power and energy projects within the industrial, IPP, developer, and utility power and energy industry. The Senior Project Manager will be a seller-doer who helps maintain client relationships, brings in projects, develops strategies and plans for performing the work, monitors and communicates status of the project, and leads multi-discipline project teams to successful completion of the work.

This role requires significant client interaction (from pre-positioning for the work through project completion) and strong verbal and written communication skills as needed for regular interaction with internal staff such as project team members, marketing staff, and operations leadership.

The ideal candidate will have significant experience with utility scale power generation systems including simple cycle and combined cycle plants. Primary responsibilities include developing and maintaining positive and proactive client relationships, achieving project schedule, quality, and profitability goals, serving as proposal champion/manager, providing daily leadership to the project team and technical staff, providing regular communication and coordination within the project team and with the client, monitoring project deliverables for quality, completeness and conformance to the client's expectations, proactively monitoring and maintaining the project budget and schedule, developing appropriate recovery plans in the event of potential shortfalls, monitoring the contracted scope of work and identifying scope changes, providing training and mentoring to project team staff on project management and project consulting issues, guiding design or consulting work in the manager's area of engineering expertise, and routinely reporting project progress to the local and regional accounting and operations team.

Preferred qualifications include experience specific to power generation projects, particularly in South Carolina, PMP certification, experience designing or managing simple cycle and combined cycle EPC projects as owner, owner's engineer, OEM, or EPC contractor, the ability to handle multiple concurrent projects, good communication, leadership, planning, and mentoring skills, and local candidates are preferred. Required qualifications include a bachelor's degree in engineering, 10 years related experience, a minimum 5 years project management experience, a professional engineering license recognized by the licensing board for the location of the position offered, MS Office and MS Project experience, demonstrated leadership, business development and strategic planning skills, and an attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture.
