Job Summary:

Conduct research on power electronics systems control, data-driven and AI-based power/energy management of electric grid, and electric grid resilience in Grid Resiliency Lab.

Job Related Minimum Required

Education and Experience:

Requires a Doctoral (Ph.D.) degree in area of research specialty by the start date of employment.

Required Certification, Licensure/Other Credentials

Preferred Qualifications:

Ph.D. in electric power-related fields such as power systems, power electronics, controls, and energy management

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Experience and interests in the power and energy systems area, and especially in applying data-driven methods and computing to distributed generations, energy storage, power electronics, control, communication, and electric grid management.

Job Duties

Job Duty:
Conduct research on power conversion controls, power electronics, solid-state transformers, magnetics, data-driven and AI-based energy management, and electric grid resilience. Investigate communication networks, control architectures, edge devices, and edge-to-cloud integration to enhance power system security. Analyze the impacts of variable generation, electronic loads, weather events, power electronics, and energy storage systems on grid resilience and reliability. Develop advanced energy management strategies using artificial intelligence, including reinforcement learning and hybrid classical-quantum approaches.

Job Duty:
Develop and validate simulation models and engineering solutions for power converters, microgrids, data centers, and grid-connected systems. Design and implement hardware-in-the-loop test environments to evaluate system performance and validate control methodologies. Perform modeling, simulation, and validation using engineering software such as MATLAB/Simulink, PSCAD, ANSYS, and related computational tools to support research objectives and technology development.

Job Duty:
Prepare technical reports, journal articles, and conference papers documenting project results. Responsible for producing sponsor reports that clearly describe modeling approaches, implementation methods, experimental validation, and key findings. Present research results to internal research teams and external collaborators and stakeholders. Prepare and submit manuscripts to major IEEE conferences and high-impact peer-reviewed journals and contribute to proposal preparation. Support the development of new research directions aligned with ongoing projects.

Job Duty:
Participate in project meetings, technical discussions, and research planning with internal team members and external collaborators to include Principal Investigator, research faculty, postdoctoral fellow's, graduate and undergraduate students, federal agency partners, and industry sponsors. Contribute to project coordination, integration of research tasks across teams, and development of new collaborative initiatives.

Job Duty:
Mentor students and support laboratory activities related to sponsored research projects and other duties as assigned.
