Senior Traffic Engineer
We are seeking a highly motivated senior traffic engineer to lead and grow our traffic engineering practice in South Carolina. The ideal candidate will be a technical expert in traffic engineering, with strong business development skills, including proposal writing and client relationship management. This role involves overseeing traffic-related projects, mentoring staff, and expanding market opportunities.
Key Responsibilities:- Develop and execute a strategic growth plan for the traffic engineering practice in South Carolina.
- Establish and expand market presence through business development, marketing, and client engagement.
- Lead proposal efforts and pursue new project opportunities.
- Manage financial budgets, resource allocation, and staffing needs for the region.
- Serve as the technical lead for traffic engineering projects, including:
- Traffic signal design
- Signing & pavement marking plans
- Crash analysis & safety studies
- Traffic impact studies & simulation modeling
- Maintenance of Traffic (MOT) plans
- Roadway lighting (as needed)
- Oversee project execution, ensuring quality, schedule, and budget adherence.
- Coordinate with clients, contractors, government agencies (SCDOT), and stakeholders.
- Recruit, hire, and mentor traffic engineering staff.
- Conduct performance reviews and provide career development guidance.
- Foster a collaborative, high-performance team environment.
- Bachelor's in Civil Engineering (BSCE) from an ABET-accredited program.
- Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in South Carolina.
- 10+ years of experience in traffic engineering (design, planning, analysis).
- Strong familiarity with SCDOT policies, standards, and practices.
- Experience with traffic analysis software (e.g., Synchro, VISSIM, HCS).
- Proven track record working with SCDOT and other transportation agencies.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and project management skills.
- Certified Professional Traffic Operations Engineer (PTOE).
- Experience in business development and client relations.
- Hybrid work model (office + remote).
- Primarily sedentary, with occasional standing/walking.
- Standard office environment with no significant hazards.
