Services Technical Specialist – Controls & Instrumentation
Install, service, and repair the full range of SSI products, including engineered package systems, pneumatic and electronic controls and instrumentation, mechanical pumps, traps, and ancillaries. This role covers the entire product portfolio with a primary focus on Controls & Instrumentation, delivering high-value field services focused on steam system performance, reliability, and energy efficiency. Requires 65–70% regional/national travel within the USA.
Responsibilities:- Represent the company in the field on projects involving commissioning, startup, warranty repair, troubleshooting, and installation of our product portfolio
- Provide detailed reports on work activities
- Interact with customers and internal teams including customer service, engineering, project management, and sales
- Prepare for travel, gather tools/resources, perform trap testing, hands-on field repair, generate sketches and/or engineering calculations, and problem-solve
- Attend training as required for safety and industry knowledge
- Identify and communicate improvements to processes and products
- Support Steam Trap Surveys when necessary
- Follow the Scheduler's guidance for planned field activities and collaborate to improve efficiency
- Service mechanical pumps, steam traps, and related ancillaries as needed
- Work on engineered package systems, pneumatic/electronic controls, and instrumentation
- Coordinate activities to ensure effective use of time and field resources
- Contribute to reliable, efficient, and safe delivery of field service activities
- Manage time to provide accurate reporting and documentation
- Prioritize and resolve scheduling conflicts and backlog consumption
- Communicate with appropriate personnel regarding loading and backlog needs
- Communicate with sales when opportunities for additional sales activity arise
- Must currently reside near Chicago, IL;
Central Valley, CA; or Columbia, SC - High school diploma/GED required; vocational or technical degree preferred
- 1–3 years of relevant experience
- Valid driver's license with ability to operate a motor vehicle
- Above-average knowledge of MS Office (especially Word and Excel)
- Above-average knowledge of steam and fluid systems, controls, or instrumentation products
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Demonstrated reliability and resilience in a frequent-travel role
- Ability to travel more than 70% of the time
- Physical ability to stand/walk 75% of the time and lift more than 25 lbs.
