About the Role

The Civil Structural Engineer plays a critical role in the design, analysis, and construction oversight of nuclear power plant structures. This position is responsible for preparing detailed structural calculations, reviewing designs for constructability, and providing hands-on engineering support for concrete and steel structures in the field. The ideal candidate will bring a strong command of industry codes and standards—including ACI, AISC, and ASME—and a commitment to ensuring the highest levels of safety, quality, and regulatory compliance throughout all phases of the project lifecycle.

Responsibilities
  • Perform structural analysis for steel and concrete including seismic analysis, shield, and anchoring systems.
  • Interface with field crews, design engineers, quality assurance, and subcontractors to coordinate technical solutions and resolve issues.
  • Troubleshoot, resolve field issues, and provide technical justifications for design changes during fabrication and assembly.
  • Prepare and review design drawings, specifications, technical reports, and calculations.
  • Ensure compliance with nuclear safety regulations, codes, and standards (e.g., IBC, ACI, AISC, ASCE
    7).
  • Coordinate with multi-disciplinary teams (mechanical, electrical, construction, procurement, vendors) and conduct site walkdowns to inspect, verify, and approve installations.
  • Execute independent engineering tasks and assume technical responsibility for assigned projects
  • Review and verify engineering work performed by others, ensuring accuracy and adherence to design standards.
  • Resolve technical issues (typically non-complex), justify design decisions, and interpret engineering data
  • Originate and validate engineering deliverables including drawings, design reviews, change control documents, and calculation notes
Experience
  • BS degree in Civil or Structural Engineering from an ABET accredited university
  • 8+ years of experience
  • Proficiency in structural analysis software (e.g. STAAD.Pro, GT STRUDL, ANSYS) and CAD/ED modeling tools (AutoCAD, Tekla)
  • Familiarity with steel fabrication processes, design for fabrication methods, support construction/installation activities for major steel structures
  • Construction Experience
  • Ability for occasional travel to plant sites
Preferred Experience
  • Standard Design Qualifications
  • Professional Engineering (PE) license
