Phlebotomist I
Job Description
The primary role of a Phlebotomist is to assist in various duties, troubleshoot, provide training, and recommend improvements to workflow. This position involves drawing blood and processing specimens in a clinical setting.
Responsibilities
+ Perform blood draws and label specimens accurately.
+ Centrifuge specimens and record maintenance data.
+ Decontaminate equipment and update patient information.
+ Collect and store specimens according to established procedures.
+ Explain the venipuncture process clearly and courteously to patients.
+ Demonstrate techniques using straight and butterfly needles.
+ Understand and follow physicians' orders accurately.
+ Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.
+ Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required.
+ Check test requisitions or computer labels against scripts for accuracy.
+ Package specimens for transport and store them at the required temperature.
+ Ensure compliance with OSHA and DEP regulations.
+ Attend annual department trainings.
+ Answer telephone inquiries and read laboratory results.
Essential Skills
+ Phlebotomy
+ Blood draw and venipuncture techniques

+ Customer service skills
+ 1+ year of recent phlebotomy experience in a clinical setting
+ Experience working with pediatric to geriatric patients
+ Ability to draw alone and perform hard sticks
+ High School Diploma or GED
+ Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
Additional
Skills & Qualifications
+ Phlebotomy certification preferred but not required
+ Minimum of 1 year of work experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting
Work Environment
The position is based at Prisma Health Baptist Hospital in Columbia, SC. This is an IOP account with working hours from Monday to Thursday, 8:30 AM to 5:30 PM, and Friday from 8:30 AM to 1:00 PM, including a 1-hour lunch break. The role involves processing cultures and handling 25-30 patients at a 2-person site. Initial training and orientation will take place at the West Columbia PSC.
The dress code and work attire are professional, and you will work alongside another phlebotomist.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Columbia, SC.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $17.75 - $18.75/hr.
