Assistant Professor, Tenure Track Faculty Position in Information Technology
The Molinaroli College of Engineering and Computing (MCEC) at the University of South Carolina is continuing to expand its tenure-track ranks. As part of this growth, the Department of Integrated Information Technology (IIT) invites applications for a dynamic tenure-track faculty member to begin Fall 2026. We seek candidates with a PhD in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology or related fields whose research aligns with strategic, high-potential areas for funding.
These include but are not limited to Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML), Bioinformatics, Cyber-Physical Systems, Human-Computer Interaction, Data Science, Embodied AI, Smart Manufacturing, Natural Language Processing, Computer Networks, and AI/ML applications enabled by Domain-Specific Accelerators. Strong candidates in multi-disciplinary or emerging areas of computing are also encouraged to apply.
Situated in USC's Engineering and Technology Innovation Center, the IIT Department () offers an ABET accredited undergraduate BS in Integrated Information Technology, a Master of Science in Information Technology, a Master of Health Information Technology (MHIT), and a PhD in Informatics. The IIT Department has seven Tenured/Tenure-track faculty, two Clinical Assistant Professors, and four Instructors. The teaching load is attractive and appropriate for developing a robust research program.
The candidate is expected to teach both online and in traditional classroom settings, demonstrate a commitment to undergraduate and graduate research, and engage in university and professional service. Successful candidates are expected to develop and sustain an internationally recognized, externally funded research program that: (1) broaden the institution's strengths, (2) align with vital college-level, priorities and cross-cutting research themes, and (3) leverage exceptional interdisciplinary collaboration opportunities.
The candidate will have the opportunity to engage and collaborate with centers and laboratories within MCEC and beyond, including the Artificial Intelligence Institute () - a comprehensive, interdisciplinary, and translational AI research institute spanning the university; the McNAIR Center () - an industrial-scale center for advanced manufacturing, processing, and assembly of aerospace, communications, and automation components; the Cyberinfrastructure Research Lab ()
- an applied research lab focused on cybersecurity and high-speed networking; and others.
