Position Summary
The Registered Nurse, Preadmission Testing (PAT), is responsible for facilitating communication between the patient, facility, and providers to ensure thorough preparation for the day of surgery. Responsibilities include obtaining and documenting patient health conditions, home medications, and any necessary consultations or additional information to confirm appropriate scheduling. The nurse is also responsible for answering patient questions, providing preoperative instructions and expectations, and preparing charts.
This role works closely with the scheduling department to support a seamless transition from scheduling to surgery and ensures compliance with all applicable rules and regulations. Additional duties may be assigned as needed.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform patient assessments, document health concerns, and evaluate patient needs based on symptoms and history.
- Administer medications, treatments, and immunizations as ordered by physicians.
- Provide patient education on medical conditions, procedures, and treatment plans to ensure understanding and compliance.
- Collaborate with physicians and the healthcare team to develop and implement individualized care plans for patients.
- Perform diagnostic tests and interpret results, providing critical information to physicians for decision-making.
- Assist in procedures and surgeries, ensuring sterile techniques and appropriate patient monitoring throughout.
- Monitor patients' vital signs, assess reactions to treatments, and make necessary adjustments to care.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records, ensuring documentation is complete and compliant with regulations.
- Respond to patient inquiries and concerns, providing high-quality, empathetic care and guidance.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and contribute to maintaining a safe and efficient work environment.
- Ensure compliance with all healthcare regulations, including HIPAA and OSHA standards.
- Provide leadership and support to medical assistants, LPNs, and other members of the clinical team.

Qualifications
- Current and unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of practice.
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Nursing from an accredited program; BSN preferred.
- At least 2 years of nursing experience, preferably in an outpatient or specialty clinic setting.
- BLS and ACLS certification required; additional certifications related to ENT or Allergy specialties are a plus.
- Strong clinical skills with knowledge of ENT and Allergy conditions and treatments.
- Excellent communication and patient education skills, with a focus on delivering compassionate care.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment while managing multiple priorities.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Proficient in using electronic health records (EHR) systems.
