This position is located at the SC Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities (DBHDD) - Office of Mental Health, G. Werber Bryan Psychiatric Hospital, 220 Faison Drive, Columbia SC 29203. THIS IS A MEDICAL (NON-PSYCHIATRIC) NURSE PRACTIONER POSITION As the Nurse Practitioner Institutional under the supervision of the Medical Director, Medical Chief of Forensic Inpatient Services and assigned Physician Collaborator, you will provide direct patient care in the Forensics Program.

Assist in the organization and monitoring of the evaluation and treatment of the Forensics Inpatient Hospital consistent with the mission of OMH. Plan, direct and execute delegated medical care activities for Forensic patients including the prescription of medication, pursuant to approved written protocols developed in collaboration with a physician preceptor. Responsibilities for the Nurse Practitioner Institutional include:

  • Collaborate with the supervising Non-Psychiatric Medical Chief Physician and attending Psychiatrist to provide medical treatment to patients in Forensic Inpatient Facility. Assist in the creation on a therapeutic milieu to meet patient's needs. This includes, but is not limited to, the admission history and physical examination, evaluation of new complaints, and coordination of indicated consultations and ancillary evaluations. Those activities are accomplished with required supervisory contact.
  • Medically manage an assigned caseload of patients and devise/coordinate monitoring protocols for labs, imaging and medical problems to improve quality of care.
  • Collaborate with disciplines regarding adequate medical care and appropriate medical referrals. Maintain medical records as required by Bryan Psychiatric Hospital Forensic Services and OMH policies.
  • Comply with all SCBHDD-OMH and Forensic policies & procedures. Completes all mandatory training annually to include SCEIS modules, CPR and MANDT.
