Job Description

Lexington County Detention Center

Day Shift 7:00am - 7:00pm

Provides nursing care through assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation. Directs and leads other assigned team members, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to provide age/developmentally appropriate care. Provides patient-centered care addressing physical, emotional, cultural, religious, and environmental needs. Conducts assessments, develops nursing diagnoses, identifies outcomes, plans and implements interventions, provides health teaching, and evaluates care. Ensures a therapeutic environment and participates in professional governance and development.

Correctional-specific responsibilities include:

* Delivering nursing care to inmates/detainees while following correctional facility safety and security protocols.

* Responding promptly to emergencies anywhere within the secure perimeter (medical emergencies, injuries, suicide attempts, etc.).

* Managing care in intake/booking, general population, segregation, and medical observation units.

* Coordinating with correctional officers for safe inmate movement and maintaining awareness of the security environment.

* Maintaining strict control and accountability of sharps, medications, and clinical tools.

* Ensuring proper boundaries, communication standards, and compliance with PREA expectations.

* Documenting care in accordance with correctional medical record requirements and chain-of-custody considerations when applicable.

Minimum

Education and Experience:

Bachelor of Nursing preferred. RN staff hired after July 1, 2013 with an Associate or Diploma degree must be enrolled in a BSN program within two years and complete it within four years. Minimum one year of RN experience required.

Required Licensure, Certifications, Registrations:

Licensure as an RN by the South Carolina Board of Nursing or a compact state. Current AHA BLS or Red Cross BLS for Healthcare Providers required

Minimum Requirements:

Associate's Degree, and a minimum of one year of work experience as a registered nurse required. Licensure as a registered nurse by the South Carolina Board of Nursing or a compact state. Current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or American Red Cross BLS for Healthcare Providers certification is required.
