Under the direct supervision of the Facility Administrator, this position:

  • Directly supervises and mentors nursing staff and administrative support personnel to ensure that the mission, goals, philosophy, and functions of the OIDD-Midlands Nursing departments are supported and can be achieved.
  • Ensures nursing schedule and coverage is maintained at all times to ensure target staffing levels are met. Conducts interviews and recommendations for nursing vacancies. Determines that the necessary qualifications and experience are present for all nurse applicants to provide consistent, quality care and treatment to the Intellectually Disabled Adults residing at OIDD-Midlands.
  • Implements, coordinates and monitors nursing quality management activities to include, but not limited to staff training, patient care and treatment rendered, medication pass observations, medication cart audits, electronic and paper chart audits, etc. Ensures that medications and treatments are delivered with minimal errors and that OIDD nursing staff are fully trained in all aspects pertaining to the care of Intellectually Disabled Adults residing at OIDD-Midlands.
  • Ensures nursing policies and procedures are updated, written, trained, and enforced in accordance with BHDD-OIDD policies and licensing entities.
  • Ensures implementation and monitors the utilization/input of the electronic health record system (Therap) for each patient. Scrutinizes the nursing documentation input for completeness and accuracy as well as ensuring good nursing judgment is exercised in relation to treatment and care decisions made by nurses. Maintains good communication with the Nurse Supervisors and floor nurses to expeditiously correct documentation errors and improve the efficiency of nursing documentation.
  • Responds to emergency medical situations to ensure immediate response and treatment is rendered. Provides oversight and coordination b/w departments to improve the effectiveness of emergency medical response. Provides follow up training to nurses and staff following emergency medical situations to improve efficiency of communication and actions during such events creating a "continuous process improvement" mindset amongst all staff. Coordinates with Campus Support to ensure Emergency Action Plans are enabled to efficiently and safely protect the Intellectually Disabled individuals residing at OIDD-Midlands during inclement weather and disaster events.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by the Facility Administrator and/or other relevant leadership.

The position for this posting is located at Midlands Center, an Intermediate Care Facility for Individuals with Intellectual Disabilities (ICF-IID) of BHDD-OIDD located in Columbia, SC serving residents with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Minimum and Additional Requirements

Licensed as a registered nurse by the South Carolina Board of Nursing. A Bachelor's degree in Nursing with two (2) years of experience in a supervisory leadership role; or a graduate from an accredited school of nursing with four years in a supervisory leadership role.

Preferred Qualifications
