Post-Doctoral Fellow
The Postdoctoral Fellow in the MCEC Department of Chemical Engineering will conduct catalyst synthesis and characterization to understand catalyst behavior in anion-exchange membrane electrolyzer cells.
Requires a Doctoral (Ph.D.) degree in area of research specialty by the start date of employment.
Communicate clearly and effectively. Experience of Electrochemical data collection and analysis – deconvoluting polarization curves, voltammetry, rotating disk electrode and EIS.
Perform laboratory experiments to synthesize novel catalysts, analyze experimental results, maintain research documentation, and contribute to the preparation of technical reports, publications, and presentations. Collaborate with faculty, researchers, and students to support ongoing research projects and advance catalyst development efforts.
Review and evaluate scientific literature on catalyst synthesis, characterization, and testing to support research activities. Summarize findings from peer-reviewed publications, identify relevant techniques and approaches, and apply knowledge gained to assist with the design, execution, and interpretation of catalyst research projects.
Prepare and maintain research documentation, including progress reports, technical reports, manuscripts for peer-reviewed publications, funding proposal contributions, and presentations for meetings, seminars, and professional conferences. Analyze and summarize research data, develop written and visual materials using standard software applications, and communicate research findings to support sponsored research activities, collaboration with external partners, and the dissemination of scientific results.
Analyze and present research findings from catalyst synthesis and characterization studies to the PI, research team, and project sponsors. Develop PowerPoint presentations and other technical materials, communicate experimental results, discuss research progress and challenges, and contribute to technical discussions that support project planning, reporting requirements, and achievement of research goals.
Conduct catalyst and device characterization using microscopy, X-ray techniques, spectroscopy, and electrochemical methods to verify catalyst structures and evaluate performance. Assemble electrochemical cells, perform testing and data analysis, document results, and support the comparison of experimental findings with theoretical predictions.
