Post Doctoral Fellow

This postdoctoral position will work under limited supervision on the antipsychotic effects of CB2 receptor activation in the laboratory of Daniel Foster at the University of South Carolina Floyd School of Medicine. A doctoral (Ph.D.) degree in area of research specialty by the start date of employment and excellent English speaking/writing skills are required. The demonstrated ability to write research manuscripts, grants and train undergraduate students in the lab is preferred.

The individual must be highly motivated and able to work independently as well as part of a dynamic team. Experience handling rodents (rats and/or mice), conducting rodent behavioral analyses, tissue dissection, and knowledge of rodent breeding is preferred. Experience in writing and securing local and federal grants, and experience of research program development, implementation, and evaluation preferred. Candidate must demonstrate commitment to conducting business lawfully and ethically by consistently adhering to compliance policies, procedures and regulations.

This position is established in support of expanded research activities.

Design and conduct research experiments:
Designs and conducts original research related to understanding the antipsychotic effects of CB2 receptor activation. This will involve work with experimental rodent models, behavioral pharmacology, molecular biology, in vivo neurochemical assessments, and physiological measurements.

Responsible for documenting and recording research findings, conducting complex data and statistical analyses, generating summary graphs and tables, and drawing conclusions based on findings.

Synthesizes data findings and writes scientific manuscripts for submission to peer reviewed scientific journals. This will include original research manuscripts, abstracts, reviews, and editorial commentaries. Will also write and submit scientific grants in the form of individual fellowships and will assist with the writing of collaborative research proposals.

Develops oral and poster presentations for submission to, and presentation at, local, regional, and national meetings and conferences.

Actively mentors junior members of the laboratory to conduct scientific research.

Maintains all appropriate regulatory training and certificates and will assist with the writing of regulatory IACUC and Biosafety protocols to support the ongoing laboratory research.
