Job Title

Job Responsibilities

Directs and supervises the daily operations and activities of approximately 178 uniformed staff in a medium/maximum security facility. Ensures the security and safety of all staff, inmates, and visitors. Under minimum supervision and guided by written policies and procedures, allocates officers and other resources to various duty shifts and functional areas. Conducts inspections of institutional facilities and equipment. Assumes primary responsibility for security for all buildings and public property.

Ensures that inmates maintain high standards of cleanliness and personal grooming. Prepares a variety of security related reports. Serves as on-call official and as duty warden on the weekends and holiday rotation. Performs other duties as required. Working hours may change. On call.

Must successfully complete eight (8) weeks of SCDC Basic Training upon hire.

Minimum and Additional Requirements

State of South Carolina

Minimum Requirements:

A high school diploma and relevant supervisory experience. A bachelor's degree in a related field may substitute for the required supervisory experience.

SCDC

Minimum Requirements:

  • A high school diploma and eight (8) years' experience in correctional, security, military, or police work to include four (4) years of supervisory experience.
  • A degree in criminal justice or a related degree may substitute for supervisory experience year for year (associate and above = 2 year). Bachelor's and above = 4 years).
  • Must be certified by the SCDC training academy and successfully complete the basic supervisory course within six (6) months of entry into the position.
